End of the Pier International Film Festival
Don’t be fooled! The End of the Pier International Film Festival is not actually taking place at the End of the Pier. The festival, now in it’s 7th year, takes place at The Ritz Cinema, Worthing. The festival is an open competition, aimed at new young independent and low budget film makers from around the world.
The Festival takes place 23rd April to 1st May 2010. This time around, there will be over 40 awards, including:
• 5-11 age group
• 11-15 age group
• 15-19 age group
• The End Of The Pier Best Short Script Award
• The Miracle Screenings Award for Best European Feature Film
Vicki Psarias, who like Andrew Sparsis (the Proto boss) happens to be a Cypriot, won Best Director and Best Short Film last year. Now she has been nominated for Woman of Year Award. Vicki’s film was a short drama about Cypriots and you can read more about Vicki at: http://www.myspace.com/brokenthefilm. Perhaps Vicki’s next film could be about a Cypriot who runs two restaurants in Worthing.
So if you know of any budding film makers, or you are indeed one yourself – now is the time to be bold, be proud and submit your entry. Visit the End of the Pier International Film Festival website for further information now!
Bryan Gartside is Director any says: “The End of the Pier International Film Festival is run on a purely voluntary basis. We are extremely grateful to Proto Restaurant Group for their kind sponsorship”.
Here is the official press release from Proto Restaurant Group for this event.
Local Restaurant hosts 2010 festival launch..
Proto Restaurant Group, the owners of Worthing’s Food and The Fish Factory restaurants use artistic and theatrical skills everyday in running their award winning successful restaurant business. Between them, their flamboyant team have a wealth of artistic talent and creative flare.
When conjuring up new dishes, exciting menu layouts and designing attractive restaurants to dine in, Proto Restaurant Group, get it just right. Just like a film or theatrical production however, most of the work goes on behind the scenes and is not always evident to the customers. As with a film, you only get to see the end product, perfect and polished, but we all know a great deal of skill and hard work go into preparation and presentation before a dish is shown to the customer.
The owner of Proto Restaurant Group Andy Sparsis, has just the right amount of artistic flare and business acumen that has made the business what it is today. He was thrilled then to hear that the internationally renowned End of the Pier Film Festival would be coming to Worthing.
Mr. Sparsis contacted and met the eotp festival Director, Bryan Gartside, to explore the potential synergy between business and the arts. The net result being, the Proto Restaurant Group with Food and Fish Factory restaurants, are to be one of the official sponsors of the End of The Pier International Film Festival 2010.
Now in its seventh year the festival grows from strength to strength, mainly though the vision and diligence of the management team, who clearly see Worthing as the long-term location for the event.
“The festival offers a great deal of marketing and publicity potential for any local business organization’ , says festival Director Bryan Gartside. Young and old alike will benefit from the End of the Pier, which will help increase tourism both national and international visitors. This is the first step towards creating a wide range of commercial and educational film related activities around the Borough. In years to come Worthing could be synonymous with world class film production. All we need is people like Andy Sparsis who can see, as it were; out of the box!”
He continued: “We are thrilled that the Proto Restaurant Group have decided to host the September launch party, with all the glitz and glamour of any Hollywood event. As you would expect from the triple award wining restaurant group. Also, during the festival that runs from April 23rd to May 1st 2010, there will be promotional show stands advertising the Food and Fish Factory venues, and the festival will be recommending its fine cuisine to all the festival delegates. This is a wonderful start to a long and prosperous business and arts partnership.”
