If you didn’t know this, Proto Restaurant Group was the main sponsor of the magnificent Splash Awards evening for the forth year running. This year the event took place on Thursday 17th May at Worthing Dome. The Proto team were on hand to ensure that everyone’s glass was replenished with delicious sparkling wine.  Fourteen awards were handed out during the evening to celebrate the best that Worthing and the surrounding area has to offer. Recognising everything from a successful business, through to individuals with a heart of gold. The awards were:

Best Business with Worthing Town Centre Initiative: Winner – Southdown Butchers
Southdown Butchers has been operating their successful business in South Street Tarring for 40 years, offering a wonderful welcoming service to all customers new and old.

Best Friend Award with The Samaritans: Winner – Kyle Burtenshaw
Kyle was nominated by his best friend James Clarke following the unconditional support he received from him following some tough times. He’s always there for James no matter what and always has a smile on his face.

Charity of the Year with Saywell International: Winner – Worthing Churches Homeless Project
WCHP does more than just offered a bed for the night to the homeless of Worthing. They offer life skills and support every step of the way, and have even set up a cycle workshop training clients to become bike mechanics.

Chris Copsey Gold Award with Henry House Hot Pool & Therapy Centre: Winner – Daisy King
Daisy picked up the Gold Award following her endless volunteering in the community. She helps children with special needs at Oakgrove College, Activenture and The Ashdown Club. She volunteers at Chestnut Tree House, works part time in a care home, rows for Worthing Rowing Club and is studying 4 A levels. How does she find the time!?

Courage Award with Adur & Worthing Councils: Winner – Tim Wheeler
In July 2011 Tim tackled an armed robber who burst into their family jewellers on Bath Place, Worthing. To protect his wife and son, who were in the shop at the time, Tim chased the robber off and tackled him to the floor until the Police arrived.

Dad Of The Year with Worthing Extreme Tyres: Winner – Tom Edge
Tom was nominated by his wife Lizzie after they moved to Angmering from the other side of the country and Tom offered to be a stay at home dad to 15 month old Wesley. His hard work and wonderful parenting has not gone unrewarded as he picked up our dad of the Year trophy.

Fundraiser of the Year with Southern Water: Winner – Trish Murrell
Multiple nominations praised Trish for her constant fundraising. She never stops planning, organising or taking part in fundraising ideas and   events, all of which benefit local charities or causes in our community.

Lifetime Achievement with Strand Dental
Run by the same family since 1991, The Rose and Crown is one of our few remaining traditional pubs. The amazing home cooked food and huge portions were praised along with the ever changing entertainment and welcoming service. Let’s raise a glass to that!

Mum of the Year with Davison High School for Girls: Winner – Helen Whittle
Helen was crowned mum of the year following her endless and tireless commitment to her ever growing brood (another daughter on the way in a matter of weeks). Through family illnesses and relationship breakups Helen has always been there for her kids.

Pub of The Year with Goring Road Carpet Centre: Winner – The Rose And Crown
Run by the same family since 1991, The Rose and Crown is one of our few remaining traditional pubs. The amazing home cooked food and huge portions were praised along with the ever changing entertainment and welcoming service. Let’s raise a glass to that!

Restaurant of the Year with Kendricks Coffee: Winner – Brio
Sitting pride of place on Worthing’s glorious seafront, Brio was praised for its welcoming atmosphere, incredible menu and selection or traditional Italian cuisine and its attentive staff. You can even enjoy a traditional Sunday roasts while soaking up the sun on the terrace!

Sporting Star with Worthing Leisure: Winner – Lauren Jones
Following an accident at 13 years old, Lauren was paralysed from the waist down. Since 2009 she has played wheelchair tennis with great success, becoming GB Junior number 1 early on and Junior World number 7. Since moving to senior level she looks sure to be in the GB Paralympic Team 2016 and may even make it to London this year!

Sporting Team with Body Shapers of Lancing: Winner – Worthing U7’s Rugby Team
Celebrating a triumphant end to their first ever competitive season, the Worthing U7 Rugby Team were crowned Sussex Champions and have accumulated so much silverware this season that there’s almost enough for a trophy each!

Top Teacher with Northbrook College: Winner – Cora Gillies
Cora Gillies has been teaching at Chatsmore catholic High School for the last 25 years and will now sadly leave in July following redundancies. Her pupils said she was more than a teacher and more like a friend and her presence in the school would be irreplaceable.

Proto Restaurant Group (Food and The Fish Factory restaurants) are extremely proud to be involved in the awards as we feel that it is right to honour and celebrate those people who go the extra mile in our community. There are many great individuals in our area and they need to be recognised.

Littlehampton 60th Bonfire Celebrations

The Fish Factory is sponsoring the Littlehampton’s Bonfire Celebrations on Saturday 27th October 2012 for the 2nd year in a row. This year will be bigger and better as it is the 60th birthday of this prestigious event.

Littlehampton Bonfire Society brings you one of the best bonfire celebrations along the South Coast attracting over 25,000 visitors. There will be lots of activity throughout the day all round the town. In the evening there will be a torchlight procession formed of people from bonfire societies from all over Sussex. The procession will be adorned with colourful floats, local groups, bands and steam engines who will all finish their route at the seafront with a mammoth bonfire and a breathtaking fireworks display. All proceeds from the street collections will go to local charities.

The perfect way to round off a perfect day is a visit to The Fish Factory in Littlehampton (5 East Street, BN17 6AU). The restaurant will stay open all day until 11.30pm.
