The Mongol Rally

Proto Restaurant Group are pleased to be sponsoring Davina Madden who is participating in the Mongolian Rally. Davina and her daughter, Savanna, set off from Goodwood on 18th July 2009. They will be travelling 10,000 miles through 15 different countries.

We were introduced to Davina by Naomi who works behind the Proto bar who used to live with Davina! We asked Davina why she was doing this and her answer was: “I am doing it to raise funds and awareness for Yes to Life. What is Yes to Life? In 2006 I was diagnosed with breast cancer ā€“ it was while under going surgery and chemo I started to research alternative cancer treatments. During that research I came across the Pfeifer Breast Protocol which I started in Jan 2007 and is still ongoing at present. As a result of this, I was introduced to Y2L and I was very impressed with the range of services that they provide. Not only do they inform, they also provide a point of contact for support, & they also offer some financial support where they can to offset the cost of these alternative treatments.

I have personally benefited from the alternative treatment that I am undergoing and therefore I strongly believe that this is an excellent charity to support ā€“ what better way to give them more media coverage than to drive a car to Mongolia! Please sponsor us by clicking here.”

Davina is excited about The Mongol Rally, but slightly scared. She is in good hands because her daughter backpacked in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan so is used to travelling. Davina and her daughter will be travelling in a car kindly donated by Wirral CVS (council for Voluntary Services). Renault Wirral did donate a car but unfortunately due to an unforeseen accident was no longer available. Thanks to Wirral CVS, they now have a Citroen Saxo. Davina and Savanna shall be enjoying a local send off on the 13 July from the Pyramids shopping centre in Birkenhead! Their car is being customised at Angmering Oval Race Circuit to cope with unexpected conditions along the way.

The Mongol Rally is not a race. Participants can choose whatever route they wanto to take and the can stop how often they want to, which is lucky as Davina has friends in Vienna, Istanbul and even knows a customs official on the border of Kazahstan.
